Swedish team conquered Swiss with a score of 3:2 in the last quarter-final of the World Junior Hockey Championship, which takes place in Gothenburg.
Otto Svedberg opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, then at the end of the first period Yonatan Lekkerimäki doubled the Swedes’ lead. In the second period, Swiss striker Jan Hornecker scored and in the middle of the third period Nick Maile restored the tie – 2:2. Axel Sandin-Pellikka brought victory to the Swedes in overtime.
In the semi-final, the Swedes will face the Czech team, with the other pair being the United States and Finland.
The Canadian team, which won the last two world junior championships, lost to the Czechs and failed to defend its title once again. Thus, in 2024 the tournament will have a new champion.
The 2024 World Cup semi-finals will take place on January 4, with the final and bronze medal match taking place on January 5.
