The Australian Open starts in less than a week, and big boxing in the Kiev Sports Palace in two weeks.
2024 will be rich in big sporting events. Most of them, but we hope that Ukrainian athletes will take part in all of them. We talk about matches, tournaments and fights that you cannot miss.
JANUARY
- January 15. Start of the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam tournament in tennis. Four Ukrainian tennis players will play in the main draw of the tournament: Elina Svitolina, Angelina Kalinina, Lesya Tsurenko And Marta Kostyuk. Qualifying: Daria Snigur, Dayana Yastremskaya, Yulia Starodubtseva, Katarina Zavatskaya, Vitaly Sachko and Ilya Marchenko.
- January 20th. Big boxing at the Sports Palace. The first large-scale boxing tournament in the capital of Ukraine in the last five years will be crowned with a fight for the world title. Ukrainian welterweight boxer, representing the promotion company Sparta Boxing Promotions, Aram Faniyan will fight for the WBF world title against the Mexican Francisco Mercado January 20th.
FEBRUARY
- February 3rd. NHL All-Star Game in Toronto.
- February 7. Start of the Biathlon World Championships. Considering the results of the World Cup, we cannot count on the success of our athletes, but we still hope for a surprise.
- 11 February. Super Bowl. Everything is simple here – the largest and most money-making event in world sports.
- February 13. The first matches of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League.
- February, 15. The first matches of the 1/16 finals of the Europa League. The only representative of Ukraine at this stage of the European Cup, Shakhtar, will play in Hamburg with Marseille.
- February 17. Heavyweight unification fight between WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik and WBC title holder Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia. The most anticipated event in the world of boxing and the first fight for the title of absolute world champion in 30 years. We hope that the fight will not fail.
MARCH
- 2nd of March. Formula 1. The opening of a season that promises to be very interesting.
- 21 March. Semi-final qualifying match for Euro 2024 Bosnia and Herzegovina – Ukraine. Having failed to reach the final part of the European Championship through the qualifying tournament, the blue-yellows will solve this problem through the playoffs of the Nations League. We hope that Ukraine will win and will play the winner of the Israel-Iceland pair in the final on March 26th.
APRIL
- April 2. Start of the tournament of candidates for the title of world chess champion.
- 20 April. Start of the World Snooker Championship.
- April 27. The start of the World Hockey Championship in Division IB, where the Ukrainian national team will play. The blue-yellows’ opponents in Vilnius will be teams from Lithuania, China, Estonia, the Netherlands and Spain. The winner of the tournament advances to Division IA.
MAY
- May 10. Start of the World Hockey Championship in the elite division.
- May 15. Ukrainian Football Cup final. The first winner of the trophy in the last three years will be determined.
- 26 of May. Start of Roland Garros, which will last until June 8.
JUNE
- June 1st. Football Champions League final.
- June 14. The start of Euro 2024, where, we hope and believe, the Ukrainian national team will play.
- June 29. Start of the largest and most popular cycling race in the world, the Tour de France.
JULY
- July 1. Start of the Wimbledon tennis tournament. Twice in her career, including last year, Elina Svitolina reached the final here. So now we expect our best tennis player to at least participate in the decisive match.
- 26 July. Start of the Summer Olympic Games. Analysts believe that the Ukrainian Olympic team is capable of winning three gold medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics, which will be held in Paris. In total, our country is predicted to receive 17 awards, which will allow us to take 17th place in the overall standings of the Games in terms of the number of awards won.
AUGUST
- August 6. Start of the third round of European Cup qualifying. Let us remind you that now the group stages of the tournaments will be held according to the new Swiss system.
- August, 26th. Start of the US Open in tennis.
SEPTEMBER
September 5. First round of the group stage of the Nations League.
September 17. Start of the group round of European Cups.
OCTOBER
- October 1st. Second round of the group stage of the European Cup.
- October 10-15. Third and fourth rounds of the League of Nations.
NOVEMBER
- 10th of November. Start of the final tennis tournaments.
- November 14-19. Fifth and sixth rounds of the Nations League
DECEMBER
- 12 December. The sixth round of the group stage of the European Cup.
