CEO “Tractors” Ivan Savin believes that the Chelyabinsk club under the leadership of its head coach Alexei Zavarukhin move in the right direction.
In November, Zavarukhin, 43, was confirmed as head coach of Traktor, replacing Anvar Gatiyatulin in the role. The Chelyabinsk club, having scored 57 points in 49 matches, is in sixth place in the KHL Eastern Conference standings.
— How would you assess the club’s work on time?
— We always want more, but I think that for the situation we were in, we worked well. We will summarize the results of the transfer policy at the end of the season, when it is clear how the new arrivals will fit in and what benefits they will bring.
— Do you like the hockey that the team shows under Alexei Zavarukhin?
— A game system emerges, promoted by Alexey Zavarukhin, and through different combinations he seeks the most effective interactions. At this point we see that we are moving in the right direction. A game with an emphasis on attack and active actions ahead is much more interesting to watch than reserved hockey. But everything must be subordinated to the result. I’m sure the hockey the team is playing now is more predisposed to getting results.
— Is Traktor faced with the task of taking fourth place in the East in order to gain home-court advantage in the playoffs?
— In the first round, there will immediately be a battle, no matter who we end up with. The consistency of the team’s actions is therefore much more important than its place in the standings. Alexey Zavarukhin doesn’t work a lot of time and it’s good that the guys trust his playing philosophy. They themselves love this kind of hockey. In the playoffs, when there will be colossal tension and everyone is playing with maximum dedication and commitment, consistency will prevail. Everything should be brought back to automatism,” quotes RB Sport Savin.
