Hockey player “Salavat Yulaev” Evgeny Biryukov shared his emotions from the 1000th game of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
On Sunday, the defender took part in the regular season match against Amur (3:2 OT). Biryukov became the first player in the history of the KHL to play a thousand championship matches. The defenseman played 822 regular season games and 178 playoff games.
– Thank you all for this extraordinary day. I have never been more worried than today. Even before the final of the Gagarin Cup and the World Championship. I thank the KHL, “Salavat Yulaev” , who raised me “Metallurg” for everything you did for me. Special thanks to the fans, I get incredible support from you.
And of course, thank you to my family and my teammates. I congratulated everyone who called, wrote and congratulated. This day will forever remain in my memory,” Biryukov wrote on his Telegram channel.
Biryukov is 37 years old, from 2005 to 2020 he played for Metallurg Magnitogorsk, with whom he won the Gagarin Cup twice (2014, 2016). In 2020, the player joined Salavat Yulaev. With the Russian team, Biryukov became world champion (2012) and silver medalist of the world championship (2015).
