Spartak forward Ilya Kovalchuk said he was convinced that the Russian attacker Alexander Ovechkin will surpass the success of the Canadian Wayne Gretzky by goals in the NHL regular season.
This season, Washington captain Ovechkin played 39 NHL regular season games, scoring eight goals and dishing out 19 assists. The Russian ranks second in the ranking of top scorers in the history of the league with 830 goals, 64 behind Canadian Wayne Gretzky (894).
“We are all very worried and hopeful. The most important thing for Ovechkin is to relax and do what he loves. There is a lot of noise around, which is sometimes annoying. Sasha is an experienced guy and knows how to behave in such situations. “I am sure he will break the record,” Kovalchuk said, as quoted by Metaratings.ru.
