“If the IIHF and NHL agree, it is unlikely that the Russian team will be left behind. It’s business, a lot of money” – General Director of FHR Kurbatov

Director General of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) Dmitry Kurbatov said that a decision on the return of the Russian national team to international competitions could be made following negotiations between the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and the National Hockey League (NHL).

On Wednesday, the State Duma is holding a meeting of the Committee on Physical Culture and Sports with the theme “Prospects for the development of Russian hockey in modern conditions.”

— Everyone knows that the Russian team has been suspended from international competitions. The decision regarding the 2025 World Cup will be made by the IIHF before April. From our point of view, we do not see any positive changes. A decision on participation in the Olympics will also be made. But here we are in third place overall.

The IIHF is actively negotiating with the NHL. And if they agree, then the most unexpected decisions are possible. It’s a business, a lot of money. It is unlikely that the Russians will then be left behind. But it is difficult to say in what form this decision will be taken,” reports the correspondent of , reporting Kurbatov’s words.

The Russian national hockey team missed its third season at the international level; the IIHF explains the suspension as a safety issue.
