Five Canadian hockey players who participated in the 2018 World Junior Championships were ordered to surrender to police in London, Ontario, Canada, reports The Globe and Mail .
They will be accused of sexual assault.
In the spring of 2022, a woman contacted the police and reported that after a gala concert in June 2018, during which players were honored for winning the MFM, she was the victim of a gang sexual assault in a hotel room. The victim said she spent the night consensually with one of the hockey players, but then seven other unnamed players entered the room and “intimidated and manipulated her into staying, after whereupon she was sexually assaulted again.”
The sexual harassment complaint during the 2018 World Cup was initially dropped after the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and Hockey Canada reached a settlement with the woman who accused the players. The development of events caused a negative reaction from the public, a number of sponsors abandoned the Canadian federation, Hockey Canada quickly announced the resumption of an investigation into alleged sexual abuse committed by former players of the youth team, and also apologized for “an insufficient response to the allegations.” An internal investigation was also organized by the National Hockey League (NHL).
More than a year ago, London police asked the Ontario Provincial Court to continue investigative measures and, as the source points out, there is every reason to believe that the five players of hockey actually subjected the woman to violence.
