“Severstal hockey has a lot in common with the Soviet style” – Canadian Barberio

Canadian defenderSeverstal » Marc Barberio believes that the game of the Cherepovets club has a lot in common with the Soviet style.

Severstal, having scored 63 points in 55 matches, is in sixth place in the Western Conference standings.

— Many Severstal hockey players admit that they enjoy the team’s play. And you?

— Of course, it’s a pleasure to play this kind of hockey. Our coach Andrey Kozyrev’s system is a passing game, good movement, aggressive style, and the guys on the team do it well. It just took time for the whole team to learn to play like that.

— Some even compare Severstal’s style of play to Soviet hockey. Do you agree with this?

– Yes, I think our hockey has a lot in common with the Soviet style – a lot of movement, a lot of passing, accelerating the pace of the game, we force the opponent to move back. Of course, it’s not that easy to play this kind of hockey, but we are working on it. When we succeed, it brings results and we enjoy the game ourselves.

— There is an opinion among journalists that Kozyrev prohibits players from using forceful techniques.

– There is no point in using power techniques for their own sake. Our advantage lies in good skating and careful choice of position. We also play with power, but in a different sense, we try to use our legs more,” quotes RB Sport Barberio.
