During Dynamo Moscow’s open training session in Novogorsk, the media had the opportunity to speak with all the team’s representatives – from the new general manager Nikolai Koshkin to one of the players applying for a place in the first team. The club have shown a total openness to the press, which is particularly interesting during the period of global changes initiated by Dynamo this off-season.
The next interlocutor of was 21-year-old striker Dmitry Rashevsky. A year ago, only the experts knew about the young striker. However, last season Rashevsky made a rapid rise in his career, going from a not very noticeable junior to a dangerous goalscorer for his rivals. In the KHL championship, Dmitry scored 35 (19 + 16) points, losing in performance only to Vadim Shipachev and Stanislav Galiyev. The striker was immediately considered for the national team, inviting him to the Karjala Cup.
Today, Rashevsky is one of the most interesting figures in the blue and white team. Will he also continue his “rise in power” this season? Indeed, in the MHL, Dmitry managed to score more than 70 points per season…
“For me, the development camp was simply necessary”
– Dmitry, how does training with the first team feel?
We had three days off before her, so I won’t say she was easy. But it is useful – how to breathe before summer training camp. We are all charged with very serious work.
– As it was a weekend, so the preparations started even earlier?
We have a development camp since June 28th. The guys come to prepare for it at will. The usual schedule is gym, ice cream and evening jogging.
– Did you personally go to this camp with pleasure? After all, it turns out he cut your vacation short by more than two weeks.
“I actually rested very well before that. And for me personally, the development camp was simply necessary in order to approach training camp in the best possible way.
– Many KHL players train alone in June – with a personal trainer. Do you already have one?
– There is a method of preparation, which has already proven itself over time. There is no personal trainer, everything is done by himself. I took a higher education in coaching. So I already understand part of it.
– What do you focus on during summer training – athletics, sports games, working with a barbell?
I love running, I’m good at it. Therefore, I’m not specifically focusing on that. I mainly do sports – football, basketball. And every day, he went out on the ice with his amateur friends.
– This summer, the most popular topic is hockey in 3v3 format. I know you managed to try yourself in this form.
– Participation in the tournament held in Balashikha. He played for the Moscow national team, they could have taken first place, but in the final they lost on penalties to Kazan. I had brothers Yegor and Oleg Zaitsev from Dynamo in my team. No more Spartak system guys. Temporarily united with red-whites and performed well.
“I was in constant contact with O’Dell. I’m happy that Eric is coming back to our club.”
– Last season was a real breakthrough for you. What are the plans for the next?
– I will try to raise the level of my game and become the leader of the team. You need to position yourself when your accurate throw can decide the outcome of the game and help the team. Let me not such an age player. I will be 22 this fall. But there are a lot of young people at Dynamo. I can give them advice.
– How important is it for you to reinstate Dynamo’s top three scorers?
– The overall result is important. Personal merit isn’t bad, but if you don’t have big wins behind you, you won’t become a sought-after player.
– How would you rate your last season, looking back on it today?
— I always treat my acting self-critically. So, I would say that the start of the championship has been good. But then I slowed down a bit. Apparently due to the fact that he spent his first full season in the KHL and wasn’t quite physically ready for it. Performance has dropped a bit. As they say, it sank. But he still tried to be useful to the team. After analyzing the season, I identified several aspects to which I must add.
– “Physical” pump?
– Not only. You have to learn to play defensively. In the minority, I still don’t act as well as some of our guys. I would like to play with more tactical skill when the team is defending.
– Were you happy to learn that Eric O’Dell, with whom you played in the same trio last season, is back at Dynamo?
– Sure. We were in constant contact during the summer. Eric is a pleasure to play with. Somehow, we quickly developed a relationship. I think he’s one of the best centrals in the KHL. But Eric will only arrive in August, who will play with whom in the same line, the coaches will then decide.
– Can we say that you also influenced his return?
— No, Eric decided everything himself. And about this he communicated with the management of the club. And we just corresponded in a friendly way on social networks.
– If it were in your power, which of the legionnaires would you send back to Dynamo?
– Oskar Lindberg, who played with me and Eric in the same trio. We did well together.
“I am a student, there are no problems with the military enlistment office”
– Did the story of the conscription of goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov into the army bother you a lot? After all, age is also conscription. How do you resolve issues with the Military Registration and Enlistment Office?
– I’m a student, so I have a reprieve from the army. Now he has already completed his graduate studies at the University of Lesgaft. I plan to go to graduate school. I will continue my studies. And I regularly visit the military registration and enlistment office, I register. There is no problem there.
I see that you take your education very seriously.
– I would like to acquire more knowledge for coaching. However, the career of a professional player is quite short. And then you have to find yourself in life. Therefore, I think after graduating I will go into coaching.
– So at 21 you are already seriously thinking about coaching?
“Obviously, I’m getting ahead. But now I can imagine myself either as a hockey player or as a coach. There are simply no other directions. While you are young, you learn everything quickly, you grasp on the fly, you need an education. I take this seriously. Why waste time?
– What do you think of the transformation of the KHL championship? For example, the idea of crossing the playoffs.
– I think it will be more interesting for the public if the Eastern and Western clubs immediately start fighting. But how will the league decide?
“Thoughts about the NHL are pushed aside so as not to interfere”
– Last season you played for the Russian national team for the first time. Plans for a national team? After all, sooner or later she will definitely return to the international stage.
– Playing for the national team is very prestigious, but it’s also a huge responsibility. If you represent your country, you must give the maximum. Not a hundred percent, but a hundred and twenty or even a hundred and fifty! And it’s hard to deal with mentally. Not everyone can do it. You can be prepared technically and physically, but it’s hard to pull everything out of yourself and even more. You have to be mentally prepared for this.
“It’s not that easy these days. For example, in the USSR, the national team was the peak of a player’s career. Including materially. And now, both in Russia and in North America, careers depend much more on playing for the club. National team matches are rather an honorable duty.
Yes, but they lived behind the Iron Curtain. And hockey players could play only in our country. And now the national team gives many young players a chance to make a name for themselves. Not only our own, but also foreign scouts are watching her. It’s a great opportunity to show what you can do, to prove yourself. So there is no contradiction here. National team performances advance the career of a hockey player.
– It’s time to ask about your plans for the NHL. Are there any?
“It’s every player’s dream. But I have a one-year contract at Dynamo ahead of me. And now fully focused on the upcoming season. Right now I can develop my career well in Russia, playing for Dynamo. Therefore, I try to eliminate unnecessary thoughts so that they do not interfere with listening. I will have time to think about the NHL.
