Athletistic / Hockey. The Israeli team won the World Junior Hockey Championship (U20) in the third division. This happened despite sanctions from the IIHF.
During the tournament hosted in Bulgaria, Israel scored 15 points in five matches, scoring 41 goals and conceding only 14 goals. In addition to Israel, teams from New Zealand (11), Bulgaria (10), Turkey (6), Mexico (3) and Kyrgyzstan (0) participated in the third division of the World Junior Championship. Thus, the Israelis climbed into group B of the second division of the Junior World Championship.
On January 11, it became known that the Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) had decided to suspend Israel from international competitions for security reasons. However, on January 17, the IIHF allowed the Israeli youth team to participate in the tournament in Bulgaria, saying organizers had promised to ensure the safety of all participants in the competition.
