Athletistic / Hockey. Famous Russian coach Andrei Nazarov spoke about the NHL’s decision to release its players for the 2026 and 2030 Olympic Games. Separately, he commented on the possible exclusion of the Russian national team from the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy.
“It’s great that at least some of the NHL stars will participate in the next Winter Olympics – the fans will only benefit from this. I would really like the Russian national team and Russian stars to be allowed to participate at the Olympic Games. But we all know where is the root of the current problems, linked to the absolute politicization of world sport.
There is a parable. In the United States, it is believed that the Russians achieved many victories thanks to harsh winters. The harsh winter decided to help the Americans and came to them. – No, no, we were joking! – replied the Americans. – It’s the same thing! – Winter told them and returned to Russia. Therefore, nothing can scare the Russian people and let the scoundrels and scum continue to be afraid of Russia,” Nazarov said in the Championship.
- IIHF President Tardif responded to the NHL’s decision regarding the Olympics
On January 1, 2024, Luc Tardif wanted the FHR to return to international competitions this calendar year.
In February 2022, the IIHF suspended all teams from Russia and Belarus from participation in international tournaments due to events in Ukraine. On March 22 last year, the organization extended the suspension for the entire 2023/2024 international season.
