One of the problems with the previous non-participation of hockey players in the Games was the financial disagreements between the NHL and the IIHF. I am glad that now all contradictions between the parties have been overcome. However, as we see, the participation of the Russian national team in these competitions remains a big question. No one will cancel the commercial side of the competition, but the IIHF will most likely offer certain conditions for the participation of Russians, I don’t even want to guess what these conditions might be.
In the current situation, the leadership of Russian hockey must be proactive and offer Russian players to take advantage of the breaks that will now occur in the NHL championships. I am sure that several exhibition matches of NHL players in Russia will be of great interest. Any format can be proposed, but we cannot leave the current situation without the attention of our compatriots in the NHL, ”said Dementyev in the Championship.
The last time the NHL sent its players to the 2014 Olympics was in Sochi. Then Canada won the gold medals, Sweden took second place, and Finland left Russia with bronze. The Russian team at the home Olympics lost to the Finns in the quarterfinals.
