Former forward for several KHL clubs Yevgeny Artiukhin said that without the Russian team, the NHL tournament, which is scheduled to take place in 2025, would not be as successful and competitive.
On Friday, the NHL and NHLPA announced a new four-team tournament in 2025. During the competition, current NHL players will play on the national teams of Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States. Teams will be made up of 23 players.
— It’s a shame that the Russian team was suspended from participation. Of course, we want to participate in such tournaments and show that we are strong. It would also be interesting and prestigious for the guys.
— Without the Russian team, this tournament wouldn’t be so interesting?
– Certainly. In our country, hockey is booming, we have a good generation of young people. Chinakhov, Voronkov, Marchenko, Trenin and others are doing very well in the NHL, it’s nice to watch them. And I don’t take superstars like Nikita Kucherov. Our team would be a decoration, and without it the tournament would not be as successful, expressive and competitive,” Artyukhin quotes RB Sport.
