Ovechkin: “It’s up to me to decide what’s best to do so that the shots hit the target”

Captain of the Washington Alexander Ovechkin said he was unhappy with the performance of the current NHL season and explained how he could improve the situation.

Ovechkin scored 31 points (9 goals + 22 assists) in 44 regular season games in the NHL this season.

— It was a great week. Right now you can see everyone is fresh and happy to be back and tomorrow will be a great day to play hockey.

Obviously, it’s up to me to decide what’s best to do to get the shots on target. You won’t always have a 100% chance, but it’s important that you make the most of it. And then, when the first goal is scored, we feel much more comfortable and confident.

We want to make the playoffs and fight for the Cup. What we can achieve is up to us. If you look at the names in our lines, they are very good lines. We need to take advantage of our chances, play smart defensively, in the neutral zone, and not make stupid decisions that will cost us the result,” Ovechkin was quoted as saying by the NHL press service.

In total, Ovechkin, 38, has 831 goals in 1,391 regular season games, which ranks him second on the list of best snipers in NHL history. The league record holder is Wayne Gretzky, with 894 goals scored by the Canadian.
