Athletistic / Hockey. The President of the Moscow Hockey Federation, Olympic bronze medalist Andrei Nikolishin, named three goalkeepers capable of defending the Russian team’s gates at the 2026 Olympics. The next Winter Games will be held in Italy.
“I have the least questions about our goalkeepers. At the Olympics there should be Vasilevsky, Shesterkin, Sorokin. I think there are simply no other options here.
However, if we take it today, then Bobrovsky should be in that top three. Most likely, instead of Sorokin. But if we take 2026, then I agree 100% with these three. These goalies have proven themselves in the NHL, they are younger than Bobrovsky. I have no doubt about their prospects for the next two years. For me, the first number is Vasilevsky,” Nikolishin said in an interview with the Slippery Ice YouTube channel.
On January 29, the NHL announced its decision to release its players for the next two Olympic Games, in 2026 and 2030.
In February 2022, the IIHF suspended all teams from Russia and Belarus from participation in international tournaments due to events in Ukraine. On March 22 last year, the organization extended the suspension for the entire 2023/2024 international season. On January 1, 2024, Luc Tardif wanted the FHR to return to international competitions this calendar year.
