Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery explained why he did not allow team captain Alexander Ovechkin onto the ice during overtime of the NHL regular season game against the Vancouver Canucks. As a result, the Canadian team managed to beat the capital with a score of 3:2.
“It was my decision. I try to base it on the specific match and the situation at the time. There are only a few moments left because it’s overtime and I have to find a way to win. I have to do my job better .That decision is up to me,” Carbery said according to The Hockey News.
During regulation time of the game against Vancouver, Alexander Ovechkin scored a goal, extending his goal streak to five games. This NHL season, the 38-year-old Russian has scored 13 goals and 23 assists in 48 regular season games.
Washington has scored 54 points in 51 matches and is in 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
