“At today’s meeting of the IIHF Council, current security threats related to the participation of national teams and clubs of Russia and Belarus in competitions under the auspices of the IIHF were considered . After careful analysis, the Council concluded that the return of Russian and Belarusian teams to international tournaments remains dangerous.
Therefore, the national teams of Russia and Belarus will not participate in the upcoming competitions in the 2024/2025 season. This decision also affects the Belarusian national team regarding the final stage of Olympic qualification, scheduled for August 2024.
As in previous years, the IIHF Council will continue to monitor the situation and consider the possible return of the above countries at its next meeting in May 2025,” the IIHF said in a statement published on its official website.
