Athletistic/Hockey. The Coaching Council of the Russian Hockey Federation has expressed its dissatisfaction with the idea of reinstating the limit of five foreign players in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

“The KHL contacted the Russian Sports Ministry with a proposal to increase the limit on foreign athletes in the registration of Russian hockey clubs from three to five, with a goalkeeper. However, the KHL did not provide no justification or confirmation of the need to increase the limit, referring only to the position of the clubs based on the results of the survey.

On February 12, a meeting of the coaching council of the Russian Hockey Federation was held under the leadership of Boris Mayorov, at which the issue of increasing the number of foreign players was discussed.

The coaching council unanimously opposed increasing the limit for foreign players,” reads a statement from the FHR press service.

It was previously reported that 15 out of 20 Russian clubs voted in favor of increasing the limit. They believe that a quota of five foreign players is optimal for Russian KHL teams.
