Russian goalkeeper “New York Rangers » Igor Shesterkin highlighted the importance of his first NHL shutout of the season.
The Rangers beat the Calgary Flames 2-0 at home on Monday. Shesterkin kept a clean sheet in the season opener, stopping all 30 shots, and was recognized as the first star of the game. Overall, this is the goaltender’s 12th NHL shutout.
— To be honest, I felt good throughout the match, from the first throw-in until the final whistle. For me, it was an important night, an important shutout,” Shesterkin said on the NHL website.
Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette also spoke about the Russian goaltender’s performance.
“It was clear he was at his best. Even when mistakes happened or something happened on another part of the ice, he was there on time, in the right position and did everything right. I thought he was good today,” Laviolette said.
The Rangers are second in the Eastern Conference standings with 71 points, while Calgary (55) is tenth in the West.
