Former Omsk Avangard striker Alexander Svitov explained why he decided to accept the offer of the Omsk Wings VHL club and resume his career as a hockey player.
In 2020, Svitov officially announced his retirement. In January, the 39-year-old hockey player signed a contract with Omsk Wings, for which he scored three points (2 + 1) in nine matches.
– I was invited to Omsk at the beginning of last season, to play the role of an uncle in the VHL team, to teach young people how to live hockey, how to play. But at that time I had problems with my knees, I solved this problem only in October and managed to sign a contract for the New Year.
Now there was no question of continuing his career. I think that’s enough. There are many sores, old wounds are felt. Yes, and the guys are young, fast, although already developing, blazing their own trail. If they have any questions, they can talk to me at any time,” Svitov told the “Championship”.
Svitov played in the NHL for Tampa and Columbus, in the KHL for Avangard, Salavat Yulaev, Ak Bars and Lokomotiv, twice won the Gagarin Cup. As a member of the Russian national team, the forward won the 2012 World Cup gold medal.
In July “Avant-garde” announced that Svitov will become the head of development of the VHL and MHL teams of the Omsk club.
