The Swedish Hockey Federation supported the IIHF’s decision to suspend Russia and Belarus for the 2024/25 season

One of the leading hockey countries welcomes the new season without the participation of the national teams of the aggressor country and the country that supports the war of conquest in Ukraine

Swedish Ice Hockey Federation officially supported the Council’s decision International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) on the extension of the suspension of Russia and Belarus from participation in international competitions for the 2024/25 season.

“We, representatives of Swedish hockey, support this decision, which is absolutely necessary in the current situation. It’s nice that we now know the conditions for next season as we have a fantastic spring of hockey ahead with Hockey Games Beijer, the 2025 Four Nations Tournament and the grand culmination of the 2025 World Cup in Stockholm,” said Anders Larsson. Chairman of the Swedish Hockey Federation and member of the board of the International Hockey Federation.

Let us remind you that the IIHF today extended the ban, which was previously valid until the end of the 2023/24 season. The next time the issue of admitting Russia and Belarus to international hockey will be considered only in May 2025.

In accordance with the new decision, the national teams of the terrorist country and the aggressor-supporting country will not be able to take part in official hockey tournaments during the reporting period. In particular, the Belarusian national team will not play in the final round of qualifying for the 2026 Olympics. It was previously assigned to Group D, to the national teams of Slovakia and Ukraine.

Hockey games Beijer – an annual tournament for national teams, which is held in Sweden. The last draw took place last week, from February 8 to 11, and ended with the victory of the Finnish national team.

The Nations Faceoff is scheduled for February 2025. This is a new competition from the NHL with the participation of the teams of Canada, the USA, Sweden and Finland.

The 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship will be held in Stockholm, Sweden and Herning, Denmark from May 9 to 25, 2025.
