Former Russian national hockey team forward Yevgeny Artiukhin commented on the extension of the national team’s suspension from international tournaments.
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) on Monday extended the suspension of the Russians for the 2024/25 season due to the situation in Ukraine. The Russian Hockey Federation (RFH) called the decision discriminatory.
– All this was expected and predictable. This is not the first time we have been excluded from all events. A logical decision on their part. There’s nothing you can do, but don’t despair. I want to say that the absence of the Russian team is a huge loss for the teams that will participate in the World Cup. It is better to play with strong people than to play among themselves. I feel sorry for the guys who won’t make it. But let’s hope that soon common sense will prevail and we will be brought back,” Artyukhin said, as quoted by RB Sport.
The World Hockey Championship will take place in May 2024 in the Czech Republic.
