Athletistic / Hockey. The president of the NHL players’ union, Marty Walsh, said the Russian national hockey team should return to the international stage. According to him, the entire hockey community will benefit.
“It is not the Russian hockey players who created this whole situation with Ukraine. They represent a large part of the players that I represent. We will resolve the issue of their performance on the international stage. I hope everything will be resolved in a positive way. It seems that I think the world would like to see a tournament with the participation of the Russian national team. The hockey world and the whole world would benefit from a best-on-best tournament in which all countries could participate .That would be the best scenario for everyone,” Walsh was quoted as saying by The Athletic.
On February 12, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) extended the suspension of the Russian and Belarusian national teams from competitions under its auspices for the entire 2024/2025 season, including the 2025 World Cup in Sweden. The decision on Russia’s participation in the 2026 Olympic Games will be made in February-March 2025.
Earlier it became known about the participation of the NHL in the next two Olympic Games – the 2026 Games in Italy and the 2030 Olympic Games (the host country has not yet been determined).
