“If the FHR was independent from the IIHF, things would be easier for us” – Krikunov

Former head coach of the Russian national team Vladimir Krikunov believes that the situation of exclusion of Russians from tournaments would be perceived more easily if the Russian Hockey Federation (FHR ) was independent of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

On Thursday, former and current hockey players of the Russian youth team born between 2003 and 2005 sent a letter to the head of the IIHF, Luc Tardif, demanding that they consider the question of returning the team to the World’s Championships. The actors underline in particular that “if the problem does not concern security, but rather preferences, circumstances or political convictions, it must be said directly and loudly to the whole world”. Tardif later told that Russians were not allowed to attend tournaments for security reasons and called on the Russian side to comply with IIHF rules on player transfers and contracts.

“It will bring some benefits, but the fact that they are not returned is 100%. This is what they are trying to achieve, so that because of their sanctions the population of the country begins to agitate. The SVO will end, we will come back.

— Is it wise to present financial demands upon return?

– I do not even know. They will find something else. We needed the FHR to be an independent organization from the IIHF. So, maybe in some ways it was easier for us.

—If the FHR had been separated, wouldn’t it have turned out that the stars did not come to us?

“On the contrary, they could easily come to us. »We would not be under the auspices of the IIHF. Everyone would drive and play calmly,” Krikunov said, as quoted by Metaratings.ru.
