Head coach of the national team Belarus Dmitry Kvartalnov said he was disappointed by the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to suspend the national team from the qualifying tournament for the 2026 Olympic Games.
On Monday, the IIHF issued a press release according to which the national teams of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the organization during the 2024/25 season.
— The Belarusian national team has been suspended from Olympic qualification. How did you react to this?
– Negative and total disappointment. The Belarusian national team has some very good players. A very good team can come together for a strong world championship,” Kvartalnov was quoted as saying by the press service of Dynamo Minsk.
The national hockey teams of Russia and Belarus, as well as national clubs, have been suspended from participation in international tournaments since February 2022.
