Prosecutors drop domestic violence charges against NHL Boston Bruins Milan Lucic after his wife decided not to testify, TSN reports.
The attacker was arrested on November 18 in Boston and charged with battery on a family member, for which he faces up to 2.5 years in prison. The Bruins said the player was taking an “indefinite leave of absence.”
According to prosecutors, on the night of Nov. 18, a woman called Boston police and reported that a hockey player was trying to strangle her. The police officers who arrived at the scene learned from the victim that after a night of drinking, Lucic had lost her phone and accused her of hiding it, after which he grabbed the girl by the hair.
Two days later, the 35-year-old striker was released on his own recognizance. During the trial, he pleaded not guilty.
Because the victim chose not to testify, prosecutors’ motion to include information about the 911 calls as evidence was denied, effectively ending the trial, the prosecution said.
Lucic signed a one-year contract with the Bruins during the offseason. In total, the Canadian played 1,177 games in the NHL and scored 586 points (233 goals + 353 assists).
