Pittsburgh retires Jaromir Jagr’s number

NHL Club”Pittsburgh Penguins » withdrew from circulation the team number of the former striker of the team Jaromir Jagr .

The ceremony took place on Sunday before the NHL regular season game against the Los Angeles Kings (1:2). A banner with the number 68, under which the Czech forward played, was hoisted under the arches of the Penguins arena.

“If you say Jaromir Jagr to anyone in the Czech Republic, in Europe, in other countries, they will say Pittsburgh Penguins, no matter where I played afterwards,” said the 52 Olympic champion years old during the ceremony.

Jagr was selected fifth overall by Pittsburgh in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. Cech scored 1,921 points (766 goals and 1,155 assists) in 1,733 regular season games and ranks second on the list of top scorers in NHL history. The forward was awarded the Art Ross Trophy as the top scorer of the regular season five times and became the most valuable player of the regular season.

The forward played for Pittsburgh from 1990 to 2001 and became a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the team. He also played for Washington, New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, New Jersey, Florida and Calgary, and in Russia he played for Avangard Omsk. Since 2018, Jagr plays for Czech club Rytir Kladno.
