Athletistic/Hockey. Vyacheslav Fetisov, two-time Olympic hockey champion, said in an interview with Match TV that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) lacked personalities of decisive character and political will, capable of taking independent decisions.

Last week, the IIHF extended the suspension of the Russian and Belarusian national teams from international tournaments for the 2024/25 season.

“We hope that reasonable decisions will be made soon.” It’s a shame for the guys who dominate the NHL today, but are deprived of the opportunity to realize their dreams. I remember how Nikita Kucherov played in my CSKA team. I knew he followed traditions, dreamed of becoming an Olympic champion, like his idols.

Political games will lead to nothing good. Denying athletes the opportunity to participate in a major international tournament violates the very essence of sport as a means of building bridges and playing by common rules. All this is due to ineffective leadership in international sport: there are not enough strong personalities in the IOC and IIHF,” Fetisov emphasized in an interview with Match TV.
