The 38-year-old Russian scored 3 (2+1) points last night thanks to the goal+pass system. This allowed Ovechkin to narrow the gap with the legendary Wayne Gretzky to 56 goals in the battle for the title of best sniper in NHL history. The Canadian has scored 894 accurate shots during his career and Alexander now has 838 goals.
This NHL season, Alexander Ovechkin played 51 games and scored 41 (16+25) performance points. In the next game, Washington will visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on the night of February 23.
