Russian attacker “Washington” Alexander Ovechkin was recognized as the first star of the last NHL game.
In the victorious match against New Jersey (6:2), the Russian scored a brace and an assist. He brought his career goal total to 838, narrowing the gap on Wayne Gretzky’s record from 894 to 56 goals. Additionally, Ovechkin scored points in his ninth consecutive NHL game.
The NHL named Winnipeg’s second star Tuesday, Winnipeg’s Gabriel Vilardi, who also scored 3 (2+1) points in the 6:3 win over Minnesota.
The top three hockey players of the day were rounded out by Colorado’s Ryan Johansen, who scored twice in the match against Vancouver (3:1).
