Latvian Ice Hockey Federation suspended the licenses of a number of Latvian hockey players for their participation in tournaments in Russia.

It is reported that several athletes from Latvia are competing at the “Game of the Future” competitions in Kazan. Hockey players represent the “Baltic team”. The list includes former Latvian national team goalkeeper Ervins Mushtukovs, as well as other hockey players – Kirils Tambievs, Pavels Goroshkovs, Martins Lavrovs, Aleksejs Popovs, Alisers Mubarakshins and Nikita Zantmans.

The competition website indicates that the “Baltic team” is taking part in “phygital hockey.” Players first compete in a video game and then take to the ice. It is noted that the “Baltic team” competes under a flag that resembles Bahrain.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has continued for the 729th day.
