Athletistic / Hockey. The Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights completed a blockbuster trade last night. The Capitals have parted ways with one of their best players.
Forward Anthony Mantha became a Vegas player. As compensation, Washington received a second-round pick in the 2024 NHL draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft. Notably, Washington kept 50% of Mantha’s salary on its payroll so Vegas could meet the salary cap. Note that the striker’s contract with a salary of $5.7 million per season will end on June 24, 2024.
In 56 matches this season, Anthony Mantha has scored 34 (20+14) points using the goal+pass system with a utility score of +6. The 29-year-old Canadian was Washington’s second-best sniper in the 2023/2024 season, just behind another Canadian, Dylan Strome (22). Note that the captain of the capital, Alexander Ovechkin, has currently scored 17 goals.
