The head coach “Torpedo” Igor Larionov believes that the Nizhny Novgorod team still has a chance to win the playoff series of the first round of the Fonbet KHL Championship against SKA St. Petersburg.
On Thursday, Torpedo lost to SKA in the fourth match with a score of 1:4. Roman Rotenberg’s team increased its lead in the series to four victories – 3-1.
— When you start from 0:3, of course, it’s not so easy, but I will say this: we continued to do the right things, tried to find opportunities to make the most of it. But unfortunately there wasn’t enough freshness, skill or anything else. On the other hand, nothing is lost yet. Whatever happens, you have to believe in the team, you have to believe in each player.
– Replacing Huska after the third goal – an admission they picked the wrong goalie?
– No. Firstly, after three quick goals, something has to be done. We took a timeout, changed goalkeepers, shook up the team, scored a goal, scored a second, but it didn’t count. Regarding the choice of goalkeeper, of course, it is not an easy series for Ivan Kulbakov, there is a lot of work. We decided to just give Huska the opportunity to enter the game, because, in principle, he trained well. We were hoping he would stop today, but unfortunately it wasn’t his day. That’s why we came back to Ivan, who I think played a very strong match today,” Larionov said, as quoted by the Torpedo press service.
The fifth game of the series will take place in St. Petersburg on March 9.
