The first-round pick will become a second-round pick if Carolina does not reach the Stanley Cup Final. Pittsburgh, which will continue to pay 25 percent of Guentzel’s salary, will not receive a fifth-round pick unless the Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup. Guard Ty Smith also transferred to Carolina.

Gunzel has played for Pittsburgh since the 2016/17 season and won the Stanley Cup in 2017. In total, the 29-year-old forward has 503 games and 466 points (219 goals and 247 assists) in the regular NHL championships.

Ponomarev is 21 years old, this season he played two matches and scored two points (1+1).
