Carolina move is for Russian forward Evgenia Kuznetsova the only opportunity to rehabilitate, says the former head coach of the Russian national team Vladimir Pluschev .
Earlier, the Washington Capitals press service announced that Kuznetsov would continue his career in Carolina following the trade. For the 31-year-old Russian forward, the Capitals received a third-round pick in the 2025 draft. Washington will also continue to pay the hockey player 50% of his salary. The forward’s current contract, with a salary of $7.8 million, runs until the end of next season.
— Evgeniy perfectly understands that moving to Carolina is the only opportunity to rehabilitate himself. Saving the drowned is the work of the drowned themselves. He must decide for himself what is most important to him now. No one but him will solve all his problems. No one but him will help him,” Pliushchev told .
Washington placed the Russian on waivers on March 2 immediately after learning Kuznetsov had completed the NHL’s player assistance program and been cleared to practice. Not a single club in the league has started to take away the rights to the 31-year-old striker. As a result, Washington sent Kuznetsov to the Hershey farm club.
Kuznetsov is a Stanley Cup winner with Washington, for whom he has played throughout his NHL career since 2014. As a member of the Russian national team, he became a two-time world champion.
