The head coach “Colorado » Jared Bednar commented on the return of the Russian striker Valeria Nichushkina to the team after completing the NHL Player Assistance Program.
Colorado beat Minnesota in overtime on Friday at home with a score of 2:1, Nichushkin scored the decisive goal. It was the Russian striker’s first match after participating in the program.
“It’s great that he’s back, it’s nice to see the support he’s getting from our fans.” To come out and score in overtime…I mean, I couldn’t have gotten off to a better start coming back,” Bednar said, as quoted by Milehighsports.com.
In January, Nichushkin was included in the NHL’s player assistance program. The NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program helps hockey players with mental problems and/or addictions (alcohol, drugs). At the end of February, the Russian was allowed to train with Colorado. In total, this season, the 29-year-old striker has played 41 matches and scored 43 points (23+20).
