Avangard striker Boucher: “I didn’t think I could beat Mozyakin’s record. It didn’t matter to me at all.”

Ahead of Omsk “Avant-garde » Reed Boucher told that during the KHL playoff match against Lada, he did not think about breaking Sergei Mozyakin’s KHL sniper record for a single season.

On Saturday, Avangard defeated Lada with a score of 4:0 in the fifth match and advanced to the second round of the Fonbet KHL Championship playoffs. Boucher scored twice, scoring his 50th and 51st goals of the season. Boucher became the second player in KHL history to score more than 50 goals in a season, including the playoffs. The record for this indicator belongs to Sergei Mozyakin, who during the 2016/17 season scored 55 goals (48 in the regular season + 7 in the playoffs), including the playoffs.

— What can you say about the Lada series?

— Overall, everything ended well for us. We showed good quality hockey.

— Did you know that you have now become the second person in KHL history to score 50 goals in a season, including the playoffs?

“I didn’t even know about it.” And I’m not that kind of thing.

— Didn’t you even want to beat Sergei Mozyakin’s record (48) for goals in the regular season? You were close, but you stopped at 44 goals.

“It wasn’t important to me at all.” Absolutely.

— Have you seen Mozyakin’s game on YouTube?

— I played against him during his last season. For many years he was the league’s top scorer. I know he’s an exceptional hockey player. It’s nice to be on the same page with him.

— Why has no one in the KHL scored 50 goals in a regular season yet? This happens regularly in the NHL.

— There are more matches there. It is generally more difficult to score points in the KHL. When someone here exceeds the “points per game” indicator, that’s already cool. And in the NHL, it’s a common thing among top scorers.

— What is the secret of your special stick, which was delivered to you from Belarus?

— When difficulties arose when delivering clubs to Russia, I found a company that made them to order. It was simply made taking into account all my requirements and wishes. That’s why I play with them.

— What can you say about a possible second round series with Lokomotiv? You played for this club.

— I won’t say that this series is important to me personally. It is important for us to succeed as a team. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself. If Lokomotiv wins, we will prepare for it,” Boucher told .

Avangard won the series 4–1 and advanced to the second round of the Gagarin Cup; the next opponent of Mikhail Kravets’ team from the Western Conference will be determined later.
