Ovechkin ties Washington legend for number of NHL appearances

For Ovechkin, this match is the 1407th of the regular NHL championship. Hunter also has 1,407 NHL games played, with the Russian and Canadian now sitting in 40th place in games played.

Hunter spent most of his career in Washington.

First place in the history of the NHL goes to Canadian Patrick Marleau (1779).

Ovechkin, 38, ranks second on the list of best snipers in league history (840 goals), followed by Canadian Wayne Gretzky (894).
