Anyway, there will be a restructuring at Ak Bars, that’s for sure. Conclusions will certainly be drawn. The club has great ambitions, a rich history and statistics. Avtomobilist is a worthy team, but Ak Bars was the series favorite.
The elimination after the first round was a surprise, a cold shower, a bad dream. “The club management and fans expected a fight, which was confirmed by the packed stands in the last match against Avtomobilist,” Leonov said, as quoted by Match TV.
Ak Bars lost to Avtomobilist in the first round of the KHL playoffs in five matches (1-4) and finished the season. Last year, the Kazan team reached the final, where they lost to CSKA Moscow in seven matches (3-4).
