Athletistic / Hockey. Vancouver Canucks defenseman Nikita Zadorov has named his childhood idols. According to him, this number never included Russian hockey players.

“Pavel Bure was not my favorite player when I was a kid. I never liked Russian hockey players. When I was a kid, I liked Steve Yzerman the most. I was a Detroit fan. Obviously the Russian Five played there, but in My Childhood the idols were Steve Yzerman and Darren McCarthy.

McCarthy has been incredible in this playoff series with Colorado. It’s funny that Vancouver’s assistant coach is Adam Foote, who tells me all these stories about the rivalry with Detroit. It’s so funny,” Zadorov said, as quoted by Sportsnet.

After the start of the SVO in Ukraine, Nikita Zadorov criticized the Russian government and refused to visit his native country until the end of the conflict. A year later, he gave a sensational interview, in which he allowed himself many scandalous expressions.

Zadorov started this season with the Calgary Flames, but requested a trade in November. In just 60 matches of the current regular season, the Russian defender scored 14 (3+11) performance points.
