Athletistic / Hockey. Edmonton Oilers captain and forward Connor McDavid shared his thoughts on Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin’s pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s NHL regular season goals record. The 38-year-old Russian now ranks second on the list of best snipers in league history.
“Of course, Ovechkin has a chance to break the record. He is the greatest sniper of our generation, and maybe of all time. Alexander certainly has a chance to surpass Gretzky. When you shoot the puck like he does, when you are as big and strong “like him, you can play a long time and score a lot of goals,” McDavid is quoted in the NHL press service.
Currently, Alexander Ovechkin, who made his NHL debut in October 2005, has scored 840 goals during the regular championships of the league. His gap with the legendary Wayne Gretzky is now 54 goals. Ovi’s contract with Washington is valid until the end of the 2025/2026 season.
