FHU President Zubko on the mobilization of hockey players: If there is a call from the state, we will go

The head of Ukrainian hockey thinks that mobilization will almost certainly affect a number of athletes

The president Ukrainian Hockey Federation Georgy Zubko expressed his opinion on the possible mobilization of hockey players into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Zubko also emphasized that the FHU is considering options for booking athletes.

“Not a single Ukrainian hockey club has centralized booking yet. Most of the players are students, and therefore have a deferment from mobilization. But we are now considering the issue of booking, preparing documents.”

“In my opinion, a person should mind his own business, understanding that mobilization is the responsibility of a citizen. Therefore, when the time comes, I don’t want to doubt any Ukrainian hockey player, that is, there will be a call from the state – we will go. I did this at the beginning of the war. Many Ukrainian hockey players did this. However, today I forbid blaming an athlete because he plays hockey. The guys play, they bring benefits here, they represent Ukraine. Therefore, we will be correct on this topic.”

Earlier, the head of the UAF, Andrey Shevchenko, answered the question about mobilization. According to the President of the Ukrainian Football Association, sports should be present in Ukraine, and our athletes are obliged to convey important narratives to an international audience with their international performances.

At the end of last year, the head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine, Vadim Gutzeit, said that athletes could fall under general mobilization in Ukraine, since the NOC could not provide them with reservations.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has continued for the 749th day.
