Former hockey player “Philadelphia” And “Toronto” Wayne Simmonds announced his retirement, reports the Flyers press service.
Philadelphia will sign Simmonds to a one-day contract and honor his career on Saturday, April 13, when the Flyers host the New Jersey Devils in the NHL regular season.
During his NHL career, Simmonds played for Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Nashville, New Jersey, Buffalo and Toronto. In total, he played 1037 league matches and scored 526 points (263+263). He was an NHL All-Star in 2017 and received the league’s Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2019.
As a member of Team Canada, Simmonds won the 2008 World Junior Championship and took home silver at the 2017 World Championships.
