Washington is playing away against Calgary. Ovechkin scored his 20th and 21st goals of the season in the second period.

Ovechkin became the third player in NHL history to score 20 goals in 19 consecutive regular seasons. Previously, Gordie Howe and Brendan Shanahan were able to do this. Howe scored at least 20 goals in 22 seasons – a record. Ovechkin is the only player to score at least 20 goals in a 19-season NHL career.

Ovechkin increased his NHL goal total to 843, closing the gap on Wayne Gretzky’s record of 51 goals. The 38-year-old Russian ranks second on the list of best snipers in league history, followed by Gretzky (894).
