Athletistic / Hockey. The Washington Capitals defeated the Calgary Flames 5-2 last night in an NHL regular season road game. Their captain Alexander Ovechkin scored a double for the Capitals.

The 38-year-old Russian scored his 20th and 21st goals this season. He now has 843 accurate shots during his regular NHL career. This allowed Ovechkin to move closer to Wayne Gretzky in the fight for the title of best sniper in NHL history. Now the Great Eight is 51 shots behind the legendary Canadian. Gretzky scored 894 goals in his career.

This season, Alexander Ovechkin scored 52 (21+31) effective actions in 64 matches. The Dynamo Moscow graduate has been playing in the NHL since October 2005. In 2018, he helped Washington win the first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
