Ovechkin set a unique NHL record, scoring 20 goals in a 19th consecutive season since beginning his career in the league. No other player in league history has achieved this feat. Previously, only two players had scored 20 or more goals in 19 or more consecutive seasons, but they did not start their streak early in their NHL careers. Gordie Howe (22 consecutive seasons) and Brandan Shanahan (19 consecutive seasons) began their streak after spending several seasons in the league.
To date, Ovechkin has scored 52 points (21+31) in 64 games this season.
