This is the third time in the history of the Omsk club that it has changed head coach during the playoffs.
In the 2009/2010 season, after the last match of the regular season with Dynamo Minsk, Igor Nikitin was dismissed. In the playoffs, the team was temporarily managed by Raimo Summanen. Under his leadership, Avangard was defeated in the series against Neftekhimik from Nizhnekamsk (0-3).
The next incident occurred a year later. In the 2011 Gagarin Cup, before the seventh match of the second round against Metallurg, Raimo Summanen was replaced by Igor Nikitin, who became the interim head coach. In the decisive match, the Hawks lost with a score of 0:2 and lost the series 3-4.
