The 38-year-old Russian scored his 22nd and 23rd goals this season. After the game against Toronto, he scored 845 career shots in the NHL regular season. Ovechkin once again moved closer to Wayne Gretzky in the fight for the title of the best sniper in the history of the North American League. Now the Dynamo Moscow graduate is 49 accurate shots behind the legendary Canadian. Gretzky scored 894 goals in his career.

This season, Alexander Ovechkin scored 54 (23+31) points in 65 matches using the goal+pass system. The Great Eight made his NHL debut in October 2005. In 2018, he helped Washington win the first Stanley Cup in team history.
