Athletistic/Hockey. Chairman of the SKA Board of Directors Alexander Medvedev expressed the opinion that the fate of the Gagarin Cup should be determined in a fair fight and the league should avoid using double standards. Previously, Medvedev criticized the refereeing of matches of SKA, which was ultimately eliminated from the Gagarin Cup, losing to Avtomobilist in five matches of the second round.

“I will not hide that the SKA had its own faults. However, the title must be decided by fair play. Hockey is a courageous, sometimes tough sport. But double standards, both in life and in hockey, must be excluded, they cannot be tolerated. The future development of our hockey depends on it. But this was seen by everyone who was not blinded by excessive patriotism.

As for SKA’s defeat and the team’s worst result in the last ten years in the Gagarin Cup, an analysis is already underway. “In the near future, the club’s board of directors will consider the report of head coach Roman Rotenberg,” Match TV quotes Medvedev.

This is the first time in the last 10 years that a St. Petersburg team has failed to advance past the second round of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) playoffs. Last season, SKA lost to CSKA in the Western Conference final in six games.
