Ex-hockey player of “Salavat Yulaev” Aimurzin: “Thanks to Tom Lyamsya, I began to understand how to play defensively”

Former Salavat striker Yulaev Danil Aimurzin, who now plays for Severstal, told how playing under the former coach of the Ufa team influenced him Tomy Lyamsia.

In the summer of 2017, Lyamsa joined the coaching staff of Salavat Yulaev and in 2020 he became the team’s head coach. On May 30, 2022, the specialist left the Russian club and led the Finnish youth team.

— I played few matches that season, I had more training. Tomi is a Finnish specialist, and the Finns are famous for their defense, so he spent a lot of time there. We played kickback, which was also a good experience.

I was never strong in defense, but thanks to him I started to understand how to play and act. It was cool to see how the Finns play,” Metaratings.ru quotes Aimurzin.

This season, Aimurzin scored 48 points (16+32) in 63 KHL regular season games, and the 21-year-old forward also scored 7 points (4+3) in 5 playoff games. The Cherepovets club lost to Spartak Moscow at the start of the playoffs with a score of 1-4 in the series.
